Old Bridge Museum
New museum, old bridge
Located just few meters away from the Old Bridge, Old Bridge Museum is a part of the Old Town Area of Mostar. This institution is quite new. It was opened in 2006 on the second anniversary of reopening of “new” Old Bridge. As the name tells by itself, this museum is dedicated to the history of the famous Old Bridge. But it will offer you much more than you think!
The museum is divided in three different sections which will bring you three different experience. The first section is located in the Tara Tower, a part of the Old Town and complex of the bridge. It contains archaeological objects that have been discovered since the beginning of the reconstruction in 2002. Exhibits are enriched with informative charts about historical events associated with the Old Bridge. This section contains out of five floors, but the fifth one is especially interesting to the visitors. There you can find a viewpoint which provides you a 360° panoramic view of Mostar.
The second section is dedicated to the pre-existing archaeological remains discovered underneath the tower. Actually, before the stone bridge on this location there were two different wooden bridges. Historians believe that the name of the city has his origins in the people who were guarding these bridges and collecting taxes. Interesting, right?
Finally, third section of the museum contains of a photographic gallery dedicated to the Old Bridge and it’s called “Labyrinth”. All of this is accompanied by audiovisual materials and multimedia charts.
Be sure not to miss it
Although magnificent as it is, it would be such a shame to come to see the bridge and not to visit this museum. It will tell you an eye-opening story, which will give you a full perspective of the Old Bridge.
