When you think of Mostar, you think of Old Bridge. Yes, Mostar is Old Bridge and Old Town. However, it is so much more than that. Moreover, everyone should put Mostar on his bucket list, and visit it once in their lifetime. We’ll give you some reasons why this is the perfect holiday destination in the Balkans.

Mostar has a perfect location

Mostar is only 50 km far away from the Adriatic Sea, and 123 km from the first ski center (Kupres),  20 km from Međugorje, 129 km from Sarajevo, 131 from Dubrovnik. Right in the center of it, isn’t it? You can spend your vacation in Mostar, and also visit all the great destinations in the area.

Mostar has a lot of historical and cultural monuments

Bosnia and Herzegovina is the place where East and West meet and make a unique mixture of civilizations and cultures. Mostar is one of the finest examples. Its most significant historical and cultural monument is, of course, the Old Bridge.  It was built in the 16th century and it is very precious, we can say even priceless for people who live in Mostar. Furthermore, you should visit The Old Bazaar, Kujundžiluk,  The Koski Mehmed Paša Mosque, The Karagözbey Mosque, The Muslibegovic House, the Franciscan monastery of St. Peter and Paul and enjoy the view from the top of it, Partisan Memorial Cemetery and more.

Hospitality – a second name for Mostar

There are some very interesting places nearby Mostar

Mostar is located in Herzegovina. Yes, the country is called Bosnia and Herzegovina. Those are two regions, connected in so many ways, but both special and different in other ways. Herzegovina has some really interesting tourist places you should definitely visit. Međugorje, Počitelj, Blagaj, Hutovo Blato, Stolac, Mogorjelo- Čapljina, Kravice, are some of them. But there are also ones not that tourist-oriented, but in our opinion worth seeing. You can stay in Mostar and see all of them.

It has great food

As in most Balkan countries, food is very important to us as well. Food in Mostar is not expensive, yet it’s good. Furthermore, you can have a quality meal for 3-4 euros. If you haven’t tried Bosnian and Herzegovinian food, now is the chance. Pie is a local specialty and it is made of thin pastry and veal, cheese, pumpkin, cabbage or potatoes. Ćevap is also a local dish. It is served in a bun with onions and ajvar or mustard. Additionally,  you can try the delicious trout from Neretva River.

Mostar is a sunny place

This town along Athens is the sunniest in Europe. The sky is always clear and the days are very bright. It is pretty warm in summer, but nice weather and sunny days start at March and last till November. Springtime is especially nice in this town. Everything is waking up and blossoming after winter, and the weather is just perfect. Great time to get up on top of Hum or Fortica hill and enjoy the view of the whole city and beautiful sunsets. Likewise, you can even try panoramic flights over Mostar, if you dare. They are pretty awesome!

People are nice and friendly

People here speak English. Most of them. If they can’t explain how to get somewhere, they might take you there instead! They have big hearts and a lot of sense for humor. They will steal your heart if you spend some time with them.

Herzegovina and Mostar have a good wine

There are two authentic wine sorts in the Mostar region, cultivated mostly in the southern part of it. Firstly, Žilavka, which is a white sort, and secondly Blatina, a red one.  Žilavka is a wine that King Tvrtko, the first king of Bosnia, drank back in 14th century.

As Herzegovina has a Mediterranean climate, with loads of sun, the whole region is covered with vineyards. The wine route is marked, and you can visit many fine wine cellars and taste wines and  Herzegovinian specialties. Moreover, you can find a bottle of quality homemade wine for 5 euros and more.
