It is located near\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hit-booker.com\/why-you-should-visit-mostar\/\">Mostar<\/a>, close to a place called <strong>Blagaj<\/strong>, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Blagaj Fort was built on a high karst hill and under it there is <strong>beautiful<\/strong> karst spring of river <strong>Buna<\/strong>. It is the biggest karts <strong>spring<\/strong> in Europe. By the river, there is also an old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hit-booker.com\/listings\/blagaj-tekke\/\">Tekke<\/a>,\u00a0mystical <strong>dervish<\/strong> monastery. Combination of those three is a \u201cmust-see\u201d location for all <strong>visitors<\/strong> in this area.<\/p>\n<p>TheFort is at an elevation of 275 meters above sea level and 231 meters above the source of <strong>river<\/strong> Buna. From that height, you have a beautiful <strong>view<\/strong> on the surrounding area, river Buna, the city of <strong>Mostar<\/strong> and all the smaller settlements from his south side. First of them is <strong>Sandalj Hrani\u0107<\/strong>, a Bosnian duke. Blagaj became one of his <strong>residences<\/strong> in 1404. After him, Blagaj becomes a residence for <strong>Stjepan Vuk\u010di\u0107 Kosa\u010da<\/strong>, also known as a Herzog (count). He was a very important person in <strong>the history<\/strong> of this area. The whole area of<strong> Herzegovina<\/strong> is named after his title (Herzog), and this fortress is also named after him (Stjepan Grad). In the second half of the 15<sup>th<\/sup> century, <strong>Ottomans<\/strong> come and occupied Blagaj. They repaired fort twice and had their garrison in Blagaj until 1835. The legend also says that Herceg Stjepan buried his <strong>treasure<\/strong> here. <strong>Blago<\/strong> meaning treasure in our language(s), and that is how <strong>Blagaj<\/strong> got its name.<\/p>\n<p>Today this fortress, Stjepan grad, is under state <strong>protection<\/strong> and is also on the Provisional List of <strong>National Monuments<\/strong> of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
