Museum of Herzegovina – a place where time has stopped


Located in the very center of the Mostar, Museum of Herzegovina is a place you must see if you want to understand a very complicated past of this area. Founded in the 1950, this museum has dedicated his work on collecting and preserving many objects that are all unique on they own way. Richness, diversity and creativity can be seen in the museum, which has become a treasury of cultural and historical heritage. This is institution that gives special importance to the Mostar and region of Herzegovina.

In more than 65 years of working, The Museum of Herzegovina had his aim on finding, collecting, preserving and publicizing the rich historical and cultural heritage of Mostar and Herzegovina. It has tens of thousands of museum items, documents, photos and other museum materials available in its collections.

The archaeological, ethnographic, manuscript, literary, historical, librarian, numismatic and other exhibits will bring you back to the past. All of them are well preserved and will help you to create a full picture of very fierce events that took place on the territory of Herzegovina and Mostar. Also, it will help you to create a full look on cultural heritage of this area. You will be able to see how did people looked, lived, worked and performed daily routines before 200 hundred years ago.

The departments of museum


Museum of Herzegovina is not located in one place, but has four different departments on four different locations. Main department is Memorial House of Džemala Bijedić where you can find all of the main exhibits related to the history of Herzegovina.

One of the most interesting departments to the tourists is the one located in the Tara Tower also called Old Bridge Museum. This department is dedicated to the history of Old Bridge, as the name tells by himself. Inside you will find many interesting objects, pictures and stories that will explain you everything considering Old Bridge.

There are also Memorial House of Svetozar Ćorović department and Mostar Interpretation Center. All of this can be included in the city tour that we are providing to you. So, if you are interested in history of Mostar and Hercegovina and cultural heritage of it then make sure to visit this museum.

    Great location and view from the terrace. Sonja helped us a lot. Old bazaar and restaurants are 2 min walk. Comfortable traditional house..I loved it!

    Because of the pandemic, we were only able to visit one winery, but it was a wonderful experience! Our driver, Jasmin, was great! The agency went above and beyond to offer replacement experiences for us because of the COVID closures. We highly recommend!! It was a great experience!
