A warm summer welcome in Mostar
Ever felt like taking a relaxing holiday? Want to escape everyday life and have a blast on your holiday? You’re in luck! Welcome to our short guide on how to spend an amazing summer in Mostar, and discover the true gems of this beautiful town. Mostar has plenty to offer, but where to start? The most famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old Bridge would be a good start, but let’s kick off with something less obvious that Mostar offers, and leave the bridge as a final jump-off.
Tourist attractions in Mostar
Speaking of bridges, ever seen a look-a-like version of the Old Bridge? A less touristic version, and a hidden gem of Mostar, is the Kriva Ćuprija (or so called „Crooked Bridge“) which is definitely worth a visit! This bridge is the Old Bridge’s older brother, which was built in 1558. These two are identical, although their scale differs.
The construction of the smaller bridge was considered a prototype for the much larger and famous Old Bridge. Prototype or not, this quaint bridge served as a pedestrian crossing as it was the only communication facility for crossing the river Radobolja. After construction of several railways and bridges over it, Kriva Ćuprija almost ceased to serve as a pedestrian crossing, because of its location deep in the Radobolja riverbed and access to it, on both sides, is unsuitable.
Let’s cross the bridge to a more nature loving environment, the Kravice Waterfall. This unique waterfall is one of the most beautiful natural attractions and it is a recognizable symbol of Herzegovina. Kravice Waterfall is a Herzegovinian „chill“ spot for those who love picnic, summer and swimming.
It’s a short drive south of Mostar and it is not a well known attraction amongst tourists, thus giving the proper peace and relaxation for every adventurer! Ever wanted to relax under a waterfall? This is your opportunity! There is less water during the summer, so you can swim right underneath the falls. Kravice Waterfalls is an amazing place to spend a lovely day outside and away from the crowds of Mostar.
Now let’s swim our way to one of the main events of Mostar you CANNOT miss on. As scary as it may sound, cliff diving from the Old Bridge is one of the main activities during the summer months. It involves trained professionals diving from the top of the Old Bridge to entertain the crowd.
This event is covered by the organization Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, where professionals from all around the world arrive and compete. The distance between the bridge and river is about 20m, so it can only be undertaken by professionals or trained people. It is very entertaining, fun and interesting to watch!
An even better sight you can have is from our apartment Old Bridge Apartment 1 on hit booker! It is located near the Old Bridge, with an amazing view perfect for watching cliff divers. This means it has an astonishing view of the river Neretva, Old Bridge and Old Town.
The place can accommodate 5 people and has 2 rooms. It has a king size bed in the first room, and the other room has a single bed. There is a sofa bed in the living room for two, that gives the maximum of 5 guests. Of course there is also a well equipped kitchen and dining area that will make you feel like you’re at home.
You can spend your mornings, coffees, days and nights at the balcony that will leave you speechless with the amazing view. You will feel just like in paradise!
Nightlife in Mostar
Prepare your fancy clothes, because it’s time for Mostars wild nightlife! People in this town love to party and the escape of everyday stress, and you should know what awaits you. Mostar has 2 quite large clubs for parties. There is Golden Cube, which is open in winter season, and then there’s Daleka Obala which is open in summer season.
Both of these clubs are always full, fun and wild! The price range of drinks vary, since there are certain tables that require at least 1 so-called „ship“, which is basically 1 larger bottle with plenty of small drinks around it like sprite, coca cola and similar. There are of course smaller tables for which you can order whatever you want.
However, the larger tables are reserved and the reservations are dropped at 22:00, and if you’re in luck, you may just find a free larger table! The music is mixed, but it is usually our local music, and some events like dj music. It works from 22:00 to 04:00 in the morning, so you have all the time to party and have fun!
Another amazing location that is closer to the old Town is the Ali Baba night club also known as the “Cave” because of its interior that looks just like a cave! It is surrounded with shops, handicraft shops, souvenirs restaurants and similar. You MUST visit this place with its live atmosphere and interesting architecture.
The club has a very pleasant lounge bar that perfectly fits the mood of the club. They offer all sorts of drinks, from alcohol to non alcohol, and even some interesting cocktails that you have to try out. Don’t feel like being in the middle of the party? That’s fine, you can always sit on the so-called shisha corner, where you can order a hookah, relax and enjoy your time. It’s an amazing place, and it’s definitely worth spending time!
Not a party type? No worries, there’s more to offer than just clubs. Ljetna Bašta Oscar (or the summer Garden) is a very easy going and comfortable place for you to enjoy and loosen up. Forget all the stress, just sit back on a big pillow, get a hookah, some drinks and relax with your friends and family! The place is verdant looking and gives a feel of nature and wilderness. No place like the summer garden to set your mind free!
If there’s anything Mostar has to offer, then it’s definitely the delightful food. Mostar has plenty of restaurants scattered across the town, and they are easy to find. Restaurants contain all sorts of dishes from traditional food, to healthy food, finger food and all types of deserts that will melt in your mouth like butter! Let’s not waste time, we are all starving to see what they have to offer.
Wine and dine
Lets face it, we all love food, but a unique restaurant is something that attracts us. Whether it’s the style of the architecture, the menu, or even the welcoming servants. One of those special restaurants is Megi with the best Italian cuisine in town! They are proud of their mouthwatering pizza and delicious pasta which is very affordable.
They also offer all sorts of meat dishes and sweets which you cannot miss out! The restaurant also has a long family tradition and all their dishes are made with fresh ingredients. With their professional and pleasant staff serving you their finest food on a beautiful terrace, you will feel a warm welcome in this town.
If you are willing to visit a restaurant close in the Old Town then you should definitely visit Divan! Located right next to the river Neretva, the place will give you a relaxing feel. Water flowing next to you, surrounded by verdant trees and plants, it’s just like in heaven! It is very spacious with its three-floor terrace and the inside of the restaurant is huge.
The food menu has a wide choice of traditionally cooked meals and plenty of barbecue specialties, including Italian cuisine which is part of their menu. If the river reminds you of fish, don’t worry, they have a fish menu at their disposal too. Their name Divan (meaning couch or sofa) says it all. A relaxing and easy-going atmosphere, comfy for dining and enjoying your time.
That is all for now. Stay tuned as we discover more of what Mostar has to offer and find out the secrets of this beautiful town.
