Ćiro Railroad Trail 

“Ćiro”, as domestic inhabitants called it or ”Ćirina Pruga”, was a narrow railroad train with steam locomotive that had historic value for the people of Herzegovina. The start of the  railroad was in Mostar and streched alongside Neretva River up to city of Čapljina. Furthermore,  it turned to Popovo Polje, town called Ravno, crossed border with Croatia and went all the way to Dubrovnik. It was constructed from 1898 to 1901 and had a crucial role in life of people of this area. As can be seen, it is no longer a railroad but it has a different purpose. In fact, it is a cycling track!

“Ćirina Pruga”, as local people call it, is a special and charming track for sure. First of all the fact that you start in Mostar and end up in Dubrovnik, two amazing UNESCO cities, is fascinating. We surely don’t even need to talk about Old Bridge and other monuments that these two cities can offer you. However this track has a lot more to offer.

For all the lovers of cycling, this track will be the ultimate experience. Just imagine yourself on a bike, riding through the beautiful  Herzegovina region surrounded by characteristic Herzegovinian karst – a unique combination of greenery, gray rocks and clean rivers. It is also notable to mention the clean and fresh air , which will give you strength to carry on your journey.

Amazing views and historical sites

Stunning nature that you will meet alongside will leave you speechless.  Furthermore, the mesmerizing river  Neretva colored with shades of green and blue will provide you the well needed freshness in hot summer days and natural surrounding will make you relax and dive into the whole experience.  In addition, the bird twitter, the sound of crickets and the rush of the river will make this route your ultimate bike experience. Moreover, on this path you will see the heart and soul of Herzegovina; a lot of vineyards, fig and cherry trees, olives, apples and a lot more. And, what is best, you will do it on a bike which will allow you to feel the nature!

Besides the fact that you will ride on historic trail, you  will also ride by some historical sites. First of all, you can start your Ćiro’s path with Blagaj Tekke and magnificent spring of River Buna. Furthermore, on your way you will encounter Počitelj Old Town and even older things like roman villa rustic called Mogorjelo.

All of this in combination with beautiful Herzegovinian weather. What more could you ask?

Amazing little stops

Since this cycling path has more than 200 kilometers, only the brave ones dare to cycle from Mostar to Dubrovnik and back, in one day. And why would you do that? You will enjoy it much more if you do one step at a time. One of the most noteworthy stops on this trail is Hotel Stanica Ravno. An old stop on railway restored into a boutique hotel with a restaurant and wine bar is an unique thing. Staying here will please you for sure and it will help you to feel the spirit of Herzegovina as well!
